Pairing: Mal/River, Jayne/Simon
Warnings: Sap
Rating: G
Summary: River has a suggestion. For
15pairings.
"We should get married," she says, resting her head against Mal's shoulder. He wraps his arms around her readily enough, but doesn't reply straight away to the suggestion of marriage, because -- well, he's been married once, and that was a disaster. That's put him off it a little, no matter how much of an accident the whole thing was on his part. And, well, he never thought he would get married, much less want to.
Not even to River, and he does love her. He thinks he's too old for her, of course, a fact which she refutes with as much passion as Simon insists he's not sharing Jayne's bed -- and with, probably, more truthfulness, though that he's reluctant to admit.
"No overthinking," she says, distantly, and bites his shoulder lightly.
"I don't know," he says, since she seems intent on getting his honest answer -- his first reaction. And then, jokingly, "Your brother might object, anyway."
Simon was most disgruntled to find out River was sleeping with Mal. He seemed to take offence at her taste in men, or something -- though his own, Mal thinks with a smirk, isn't that good.
"We can elope," River replies sunnily after a moment's thought.
It's starting to sound oddly appealing, actually. The marrying, not the eloping so much. The look on Simon's face should be worth something, anyway.
