"At least she's distinctive."
"That could be a bad thing."
Seifer shrugs slightly, amused at his lover's sulky refusal to just go with it. It is silly: that she has two knights and abandons both to go shopping in Esthar -- firmly ordering them to stay away. An order that they, of course, are disobeying, because they're SeeDs -- both of them, now, thanks to some skillful manoeuvering by Squall in getting Seifer onto a last chance test -- and paranoia is in the training.
"She's got her own ways of protecting herself, you know that."
Squall nods. He can see the blue glint of her protective shield from here, his senses curiously linked to her powers, but that doesn't keep him from worrying. He is, after all, a cautious man who was incautious enough to fall for a sorceress. Being a sorceress -- or a knight -- can be a dangerous thing at any time, and perhaps more so now. Garden is always watching them, just in case.
Just in case. That's the biggest lesson they've learned from Garden, perhaps.
Seifer's arm curls easily around him, pulling him close and keeping him there even as he half-heartedly tries to struggle away. He smirks a little as he kisses Squall's temple lightly. "Quit worrying so much, or you'll spoil her day."
"She spoilt mine," Squall mutters.
"Oh, stop that." Seifer snorts softly. "You know your day isn't complete without some kind of paranoia -- whether it's suddenly not believing that we really do both love you, or coming up with some imagined threat to her."
"I'm nearly always right."
Seifer glances at him and moves in for a proper kiss, kissing him deeply and eagerly for a moment before pulling away and smiling at the haziness of his eyes after that. "Not about the us not loving you part."
Squall's mouth softens into a smile. "No, not about that part."
"She'd be alright without us here, you know," he says, after a minute -- mostly out of habit, because his eyes are on the blue shimmer of the protective shield, and the constant blue of her clothes. Neither of them will move, other than to follow her. Now really isn't the time to be wrapped around each other in bed, no matter how pleasant the passing thought is.
"Maybe, but we're not going."
Squall shifts slightly to lean against him a little more, and Seifer fights back a sudden rush of pride that somehow he's with them both -- trusted above all else, trusted with the life of a sorceress again, and more, trusted with the heart of someone as privately fragile as Squall. He reaches up to run his fingers through Squall's hair.
Rinoa knows they're there. She can't not know. Finally, she turns to acknowledge them -- and Seifer can see, even from the distance they've carefully kept, that she's annoyed. In response, he grins, and kisses Squall again.
