Kaylee's kisses are soft, with her. River remembers a time when Simon would be startled by Kaylee's rough, eager kisses, but that time is long gone. Kaylee has River now. And she's always gentle, even when River wants rough and eager more than Simon ever did. Mostly, River lets Kaylee be gentle, but today... Today the Reavers passed, and River's heart is still hammering, and she wants assurance.
So she initiates it; something Kaylee is used to doing. She finds Kaylee in the engine room and the minute she turns away from Serenity's engine, she kisses her -- presses close to her, hands moving to the small of her back to put her that little bit off balance that makes it easier.
"River -- "
"Ssh," she orders, almost imperiously, and kisses Kaylee again. What they both want, they'll both get.
Sometimes, afterwards, River wonders why she hadn't done that before. After all, life is too short for ifs and maybes -- and they both did like it, need it. Especially then, it was good to feel Kaylee's heart quicken, listen to her breath rushing in and out, so very alive.

especially because it makes me think of the uber-kinky Kaylee/River/Simon. I love that River is still worked up about Reavers, and that she comes to Kaylee for it; and the contrast between the soft and the hard.Thankies.
