Cecil was never sure what to do when Rosa cried. It made him feel awkward and clumsy and protective. It made him want to wrap his arms around her -- tight -- and maybe kiss her, let her know he was there. He never did, though. Just held her, awkwardly, because she never did cry enough for him to get used to comforting her -- a fact he was somewhat grateful for. It felt good to hold her, anyway -- smell her hair and feel her lean against him. Trusting him. Needing him, at least for a while.
