FFIV: Shut Up

Fandom: Final Fantasy IV
Pairing: Kain/Cecil
Warnings: None
Rating: PG
Summary: Cecil gives Kain a good long talk about redemption and coming home. For [livejournal.com profile] xerne.

"You repeated yourself again," Kain pointed out, supposedly helpfully. In reality, he really wanted Cecil to go away so that he could carry on moping in peace. Was that really too much to ask? "I like Mount Ordeals. I'm staying here. You can say what you like, but I'm not going ho -- back to Baron with you."

Cecil was smiling. He'd found an opening and both of them knew it. He moved a little closer to Kain, moving the dragoon's lance from between them. Kain licked his dry lips carefully and wished that Cecil would just take the hint and go away instead of moving closer all the time in that overly disconcerting way. "You are coming home with me, I know you are. Especially because you still do think of it as home."

"Slip of the tongue," Kain muttered.

Cecil sighed. "Kain, I've been talking to you for hours about this whole redemption thing. I've made you realise that Baron is still your home. Mount Ordeals isn't a good place for anyone -- especially not alone. You're obviously exhausted most of the time, and you're going to catch a cold, and your lips are chapped, and -- Kain, where do you even sleep?"

"On the ground, of course."

"And that's not good for you, either!"

"You're starting to sound like nagging wife," Kain pointed out, a tiny smile making his lips crack a little more. Cecil huffed softly, fishing some lip balm out of his pocket and handing it to Kain, ignoring the raised eyebrow.

"It's the side effect of having one, not that Rosa nags that much. She thinks of everything."

"I can tell."

"I want you to come home to us, Kain," Cecil finally mumbled, after a few minutes. "Never mind all I just said... really, it's just that I want you back in Baron. Not -- not that what I said isn't true, but..."

Kain inched closer, carefully. "But?"

Cecil took a deep breath and then huffed softly, turning to look at Kain. "You know what I mean."

"So just say it."

Cecil said it. And Kain sat very still for a few minutes, taking it in, and taking in the fact that his mouth didn't feel so much like it was just going to crack in half. Cecil opened his mouth to say something else and Kain moved closer, kissing him softly.

"Shut up," he ordered, and finally, Cecil listened.
