Wash loves Zoe, really does, heart and soul and, heck, even his kidneys and intestines and all of that -- especially, come to think of it, his intestines, which still knot up sometimes when she smiles. But sometimes, well, she's a bit much for him and then, surprisingly enough, it's the awkward and socially inept Simon he goes to.
It's soothing to sit in the infirmary with him, somehow -- maybe it's watching a professional at work, watching him make the place his own with just a few touches. Maybe it's just that when he's not saying the wrong thing he's an incredibly sympathetic person.
Maybe it's that if he'd met him just a few years earlier, he'd've fallen in love with him -- not that he regrets marrying Zoe in the slightest.
