The Tams are trouble, and he's always known that, so Mal ain't quite sure why he's been giving Simon an' especially River wistful looks just 'cause they're leavin'. It'll be better for his crew -- except maybe for Kaylee, who's been sweet on Simon since she'd laid eyes on him.
He figures that tellin' her it's for the best won't help, so he puts a heavy hand on her shoulder and just squeezes, once, and she looks up at him all hurt. She says he's pushin' 'em all away, and he's afraid she might be right.
But he can't stop it bein' a potentially good thing to have the Tams off his boat and no longer causin' trouble.
