Zoe's concern is there but unspoken and Mal ignores it, closing the doors of Serenity as he walks up into the cargo hold. His hand brushes a crate, and then he leans against it, weighing the pros and cons of actually going to Simon and getting himself patched up. On the one hand, he gets to stop hurting and gets to walk straight, which is definitely better. On the other, Simon will look at him with those too perceptive doctor's eyes and maybe say something silly and true.
Mal would certainly regret punching him, but only well after he'd done it.
