There're moments that make Jack catch his breath and almost hold it, her looking at the Doctor and him at her and them at him, moments of horribly clear meaning that frightens him. It frightens him because it makes him catch his breath and it sticks there, where nothing else has stuck since before the gap in his memory that itches like a phantom limb. It sticks somewhere it shouldn't and reminds him of loss, and makes him all too glad that they both surrender at a kiss and that nothing more needs to be said or done between them.
