"How does it feel? Being married, I mean."
The morning is bright and cool, and Rosa leans against the wall and looks down on the town below and considers the question in every light she can, glancing at Rydia's waiting expression only once.
"Not so different. And yet..."
"Don't want to talk about it?"
It'll be autumn soon, Rosa realises, breathing in the cool snap in the air that says even if the calendar hasn't turned to autumn, the seasons are ahead of it. Rydia, beside her, is still and quiet, waiting for an answer, or maybe just waiting for something else to say, knowing that Rosa doesn't have words. And yet, she does. It isn't that she doesn't have words.
But they're not words for Rydia, who loves her in that hopeless, hero-worshipping, older-female-role-model way. The kind of crush Rosa might've had on a teacher once upon a time, but didn't, because her eyes were already full of Cecil.
"How does it feel? Being chased by Edge?"
Rydia's blush is quick and pretty, a last flush of summer in the autumn morning. "Interesting," she says, carefully, and Rosa smiles.
There's nothing there yet, but there's ground ready for seeds, given time, and a little winter of Rydia's feelings before she's ready again. But she'll love Edge, as sure as Rosa loves Cecil, given time.
