"You're late."
Squall paused in the doorway, putting his bag down quietly, biting his lip. "Yes. I'm sorry, Rinoa. It... it didn't go too well. We had to recover one of the SeeDs bodies, and... I'm sorry. I know I should've been back hours ago."
Rinoa didn't know if she preferred the apologetic, considerate Squall or the one who would snap at her for worrying about what was, after all, his job. He had changed, and not really in a good way, and she knew it was her fault. She sighed softly, sitting up in their bed and running a hand through her hair. "I'm not mad, Squall, I was just a little worried. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," he nodded, taking his jacket off quickly and hanging it up. "Just tired."
"Come to bed, then."
"I should unpack..."
Rinoa laughed, falling back on the soft pillows despairingly. "Oh, Squall. Just hurry up and come to bed. I know you're tired, you said so, and surely you don't want to waste all your homecoming on a bag."
He smiled. "I don't."
She smiled back, glad to see him, at least, not looking as tired and run down as he sometimes did the day he came back from a mission. "Then hurry up and come to bed."
