The fun is in trusting to luck, Edge has found. Grinning at a girl and not caring if she grins back -- hoping she will, of course, but mostly just trusting to his own judgement of the right moment. Which is flawed often enough, but...
With Rydia, he's more careful. Always with Rydia he thinks it over, tries not to open his mouth and then insert his foot, and yet she makes all his luck dry up. All his luck, and all his clever words, until he's sure he can never do anything worse.
But his luck holds when he kisses her.
