FFVIII: Stillness Is A Lack Of Movement

Fandom: Final Fantasy VIII
Pairing: Quistis/Selphie
Warnings: Angst
Rating: PG
Summary: It seems unnatural for Selphie. For [livejournal.com profile] admitby20.

Selphie's still. That's wrong for Selphie. She's still and pale under white sheets -- but at least the stillness is from sleep or unconsciousness, and the white sheets are the clean, scratchy new sheets in the infirmary. As long as she's still alive, Quistis can tolerate the stillness. Though it sort of pains her to see Selphie like that, of course, pains her more than it seems to worry everyone else.

She's spending entirely too much time in the infirmary, and soon someone will ferret out her secret -- Kadowaki, or Zell, or maybe even Squall. She might be obvious enough for even Squall to see it, though somehow, she doubts it.

Squall's kind of oblivious, after all.

It took her a while to find herself out anyway. To realise why it upset her so -- Selphie's pale face, and the white sheets paler, and the smell of disinfectant and Kadowaki shooing her out of the infirmary while she changed the bandages, the glimpse she'd caught of blood and infection and pus, and it makes her shudder even now to think of it, even though they say Selphie's on the mend.

It took her a while to admit even to herself that she -- that she --

That she loves Selphie.

And that she's afraid of what she'll do if Selphie never moves again.
