Rosa is getting married.
Rydia wouldn't miss it for the world, even if she doesn't entirely approve. Cecil is too clean, too squeakily-clean-perfectly-perfect, and there's going to be trouble when the little shards of darkness come out. It'll cause arguments between the two of them, no doubt, but Rydia is sure that it'll all work out somehow anyway, no matter how she approves or disapproves. And she can't miss seeing Rosa all in white and radiant and beautiful.
She celebrates and toasts them with Edge and gets almost drunk and giggles when Edge dances with her and when he kisses her, and Rosa's eyes are on the celebration, finding her, making sure of her, every few minutes that evening. She doesn't go with Cecil to their room, but goes to find Rydia -- sends Edge to bed and takes Rydia into the clean dark night.
"What's wrong?" she asks, wrapping an arm around Rydia, and it only takes a moment for her shards to come out, mother issues and crushes and crushed petals and all sorts of pretty imagery wrapped up in ugly drunk slurred sobs for words.
With a spell or two Rosa helps Rydia clean herself up and straighten out, and then they walk. Rydia is still crying, but not like a baby now, not like a little girl drunk and flattered into light headed extremes. They walk hand in hand and Rydia relaxes a little, lets go of the worry that Rosa is leaving her entirely, growing up and way. Because, Rosa says, and the fireworks of celebration go up behind Baron's castle while she says it, they'll always be friends.
And, she says, she's not blind. She knows about the shards of darkness and the fallout and she'll be fine. She's ready.
"And," she adds, nudging Rydia gently, "you'll be there for me."
