Tifa was asleep when he left, or he thought she was, curled up in a ball on the bed as she was. He paused at the door, feeling like he was running away again, even if he was just going for a breather -- just for a break and some thought.

This time, he didn't think about saying goodbye or anything absurd like that. He was coming back. Soon.

"I'll be back soon," he said, softly, back still turned to her.

Tifa closed her eyes and relaxed a little. Cloud had near promised. And if he didn't come back, she'd kick his ass.

Found this on ff_press. I like the way you characterised their relationship: how they're close enough that Cloud bothers to tell her that he'll be back soon even if he does think she's asleep. How she trusts in him to keep his 'near promise'. =)
