"I thought I'd find you two here."

Seifer let Hyperion drop a little and smirked at Irvine, a little weary and hiding it. No one -- none of the three, anyway -- was deceived. He shrugged slightly, waiting for Squall to relax and stop looking like he wanted to stab someone before he quite relaxed as well. "Squall's pissed off. Since you weren't around, I thought we'd work it off some this way."

Irvine looked Squall over briefly, noting all the familiar lines of tension he knew just how to ease. Squall was even more tense than usual, a mess of strung out emotion, and Irvine raised an eyebrow slightly, tipping his hat back a little. "I can tell. You're bleeding."

"Sorry," Squall mumbled, looking up at Seifer briefly. Irvine rolled his eyes and walked over to them, tossing a potion to Seifer and pulling Squall into his arms, nuzzling against him.

"What's got you so wound up, then? Has Seifer been teasing you again?"

Squall huffed softly and pushed at Irvine's chest, peeking up at him through his hair and giving him a peeved look. "Of course not. Cid just decided to reduce my vacation time, decrease my pay, increase my workload and promote me to holding the position of headmaster and commander simultaneously and I don't want to do it. And I want my pay. And my vacation."

"Our fuck time, you mean."

Irvine glared at Seifer rather mildly for that comment. He'd never quite got the knack of glaring like the other two did. He slid his hands carefully down Squall's back and then reached up to brush his hair out of his eyes, trying to think of a response.

It was one of the best things about Squall, actually -- the fact that he'd wait for a response. So many girls -- girls like Selphie and Quistis included -- would jump down his throat for not saying something quickly enough, or for saying something too quickly and getting it wrong. It wasn't that Irvine had anything to hide -- he was always honest about whatever was the problem.

He just wanted to get it right.

So he was grateful for Squall's silence while he thought, and for Seifer's relative patience.

"Maybe you should quit," he finally suggested, and tried not to sound hopeful. He stroked Squall's hair out of his face again and ignored Seifer's intense eyes. "We could all quit SeeD. All three of us. Find something else to do."

"Like what? We're trained fighters, we don't have much else..."

"We could be rentboys. Or you two could, anyway."

Irvine looked up at Seifer with an annoyed huff, rolling his eyes. "Can't you ever be serious?"

Seifer smirked. "No. I'm an asshole and you love me. Weren't we talking about getting Squall to quit SeeD?"

"I was suggesting it." Irvine looked down at Squall again and raised an eyebrow, running a hand up along his spine and feeling him shiver. "What d'you think, baby? We don't have many skills, but people know you. You wouldn't even need a past reference or something. People'd give you a job just because you're you."

Squall hesitated. "Let me think about it?"

Irvine wrapped his arms tightly around him and nodded slightly, squeezing a little. "Of course."

Seifer watched them for a moment, then moved up close to kiss the back of Squall's neck and wrap his arms around him as well. "For now, maybe we should just relax and... try not to think about it or something. You given up on the fighting idea, Squall?"

Squall just snuggled against them both, trapped securely between them, and didn't answer. Seifer and Irvine grinned at each other over the top of Squall's head at one more double triumph over Squall's moodiness and his dislike for public displays of affection.
