The best defence against being hurt is to shut the world out. Leon learned how to do that long ago, keeping his heart under control with a mental lock and key. Only he thought he'd thrown the key away.
Still, he's there for Yuffie and Aerith, and he finds himself trying to be kind to Cloud -- not that Cloud wants it from him -- and Sora and his friends worm their way in, too.
Until Leon has to conclude that, although he could be hurt -- oh-so-easily -- he feels better like this, when he sometimes has a reason to smile.
