FFX-2: Protector
Fandom: Final Fantasy X-2

Summary: Sometimes he wonders how much he really does want to die.
Staying awake to watch over the rest of the squad, I try to keep my eyes on our surroundings, watching out for fiends. Still, my eyes wander back to them, my companions -- dare I say it? -- my friends.
A deathseeker doesn't usually have friends.
It makes me wonder how much I really do want to seek my death.
There's Paine, a little cold, a little reluctant, while she's behind the recorder, at least, but she can be warmer, I've seen her smile. She takes care of us after battles, with healing spells and potions and bandages. She has a look in her eyes, a manner about her -- as if she thinks she needs to take care of us. We make her smile more than anything else.
And then there's Baralai. I don't know very much about him even though we're on the same squad. He's from Bevelle, that I know, and he's all tied up in all Yevon's beliefs and intrigues. He doesn't truly believe people should fight for any reason, but he accepts the mission to defeat Sin because of the misery it causes. I think he'd make a better priest than a warrior, most of the time, yet in battle, he's quick, he's a force to be reckoned with.
And then Gippal. Here to help us even if we won't help him, his people as a whole. Sometimes, he seems to miss his home, but he makes the best of it. He loves to laugh, to make us smile. He's open -- half the time too open, and he has to check himself before saying something he shouldn't. He teases Paine and Baralai, drawing them out, but me he respects just a little more. Not to say he doesn't tease me, too.
I love these people, these three. Somehow they crept close to my heart.
So where before I would lie waiting for the fiends to come to me, now I watch, to drive them back, to protect these three.
