FFVII: [profile] 1sentence claim

Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Pairing: Tifa/Aeris
Warnings: Sap, angst
Rating: PG
Summary: A collection of sentences about Tifa and Aeris, using original game canon only. For [livejournal.com profile] 1sentence.

#01 - Ring

Tifa didn't wear the ring, but she showed it to Aeris, one day while they waited for Cloud and the others to wake; Aeris admired it, and said that she thought it was pretty, and Tifa would have given it to her, but it might have given away her vague, half formed feelings, so she didn't dare.

#02 - Hero

"He'll be a great hero one day," Aeris whispered, smiling, and the way she said it was as if she knew, and it made a shiver run right through Tifa as she took Aeris' hand and tugged her inside the inn, to sleep, ready to fight another day.

#03 - Memory

Tifa found it hard to believe that Aeris was gone -- faded -- just a memory -- but she had to, and she had to fight not to show the grief, the crippling grief of being heartbroken without ever having let the person know you had a heart ready for them to break.

#04 - Box

She was glad that Aeris wasn't shut up in a box, as glad as she was also a little sad that there was no grave to visit -- but she had a feeling that Aeris, with her soft hands and her compassionate kiss, would be so much happier floating free...

#05 - Run

An early morning run was a great way to keep in shape, Tifa had told Aeris and, determined to be stronger and a little better in battle, Aeris had immediately grabbed Tifa's hand and started the pointless, but amusing enough, custom of stumbling around the town, hand in hand, only half awake, every morning after they'd slept in an inn.

#06 - Hurricane

The world was going to hell, Tifa realised, and she wished that Aeris was still around to hold onto, because in the eye of the storm she had an idea that Aeris would be a wonderful companion -- she'd proved herself good enough on the road and in battle, after all, winning Tifa's respect and, yes, her love.

#07 - Wings

She didn't believe any stories about angels, they were just stories from other times, times that seemed a world away now -- Aeris' soul had gone back to the Lifestream, in reality, or something like that -- but she did like to imagine what Aeris' wings would be like if she was an angel.

#08 - Cold

Aeris' hands were cold, Tifa realised, watching her rub them, so she moved closer to her as Cloud and the others discussed yet another problem -- not looking at Aeris, she took her hands, and started rubbing them, finally just holding them, cold compared to her warm.

#09 - Red

Aeris' favourite colour was red, and pink, which surprised Tifa a little because red was such a bloody colour -- pink made sense, but red?

#10 - Drink

Tifa leaned against the wall outside, taking a few deep breaths of air, hating the smoky atmosphere inside and wishing she'd remembered her drink -- but she didn't have to wish, because a moment later, the door opened and Aeris smiled at her, handing her a drink and leaning against the wall beside her.

#11 - Midnight

Before Aeris went to find Cloud at the Gold Saucer, she was with Tifa, who smiled and made the best of things -- Aeris would always think that Tifa was bothered because she liked Cloud, but she was wrong.

#12 - Temptation

"Come on, Aeris," Tifa whispered, giving her a Phoenix Down and helping her up; for a moment, their faces were close, and Tifa almost yielded to the temptation to kiss her... but not quite.

#13 - View

Aeris had been crying, but now she was quiet, Tifa still didn't let her go -- they stood together at the window, looking out at the town, at the rather unpleasing view.

#14 - Music

"You had a piano, in your home, didn't you?" Aeris asked, and Tifa remembered that Cloud had told them all so, so she nodded and smiled and played a little, what she could remember without the sheet music, just for Aeris.

#15 - Silk

Tifa's skin was not silk smooth, but toughened and worn by fighting, but Aeris didn't mind -- Tifa was strong, and could look after herself, as well as being pretty, and the rough skin of her hands showed that and made her more appealing, not less.

#16 - Cover

Cloud, Barret and Yuffie were fighting the monster, so Aeris and Tifa took cover to leave them to it, shielding themselves from the crackling energy of Cloud's spells, and holding onto each other, just for the closeness.

#17 - Promise

The others thought I didn't say a thing when I knelt next to Aeris -- I touched her face, her hair, and then I wanted to run away, leave the cold dead body Aeris had left behind, but I did whisper, just before I left, in case she was hanging around; "I promise I'll meet you again, somewhere."

#18 - Dream

I had a bad dream, but when I woke, Tifa was there -- she sat beside my bed, took my hand, smiled, and promised me that she'd stay by my side, if I wanted, to help me sleep -- my sleep was dreamless after that.

#19 - Candle

Tifa lit a candle for Aeris -- a single candle, burning brightly all alone, just like Aeris had burned alone, the last sane remnant of her race.

#20 - Talent

It might have been Aeris that was the Cetra among them, but it was Tifa who had a talent for making people feel stronger than they were -- Cloud was her hero, but Aeris, just between herself and Tifa, was going to save everybody.

#21 - Silence

Tifa longed to hear the voice of the Planet, hoping that somewhere in it, somewhere in all those voices, she would hear Aeris -- she tried, and all she could hear was silence.

#22 - Journey

It ended in tragedy and was a hard road to walk, but Aeris enjoyed that journey more than anything else in her whole life -- enjoyed the company of Tifa, strong but gentle, kind but not too kind.

#23 - Fire

The monster bounded towards Aeris' body, perhaps to kill her once she was knocked out, but Tifa knocked it back with an angry shout and a fire spell, guarding Aeris as Cloud threw a Phoenix Down at her.

#24 - Strength

Aeris admired Tifa for her strength and, perhaps ironically, Tifa admired her, too, for the same reasons.

#25 - Mask

Neither of them ever wore a mask over their emotions, so the night Tifa kissed Aeris, it was plain enough that both were happy, as much as it was plain that Aeris knew it was just a short term thing, that it couldn't last.

#26 - Ice

"Aeris!" Tifa shouted -- and Aeris heard her, though she couldn't hear anyone else over the pounding of her own heart, and she responded, casting an ice spell on the monster, the cold driving through her and waking her from the odd daze of near-death as tingles of healing magic from Tifa swept over her.

#27 - Fall

Tifa watched her fall forward, and longed to run forward, catch her, hold her tight and safe in her arms again.

#28 - Forgotten

Sometimes, Aeris was worried that if she died, she would be forgotten by the group -- but Tifa told her off for that idea, giving her a tight hug and reminding her that friends never forgot each other.

#29 - Dance

Most people assumed they both wanted Cloud, but really what they were doing was dancing around their feelings for each other -- both concealing them at the wrong moment and almost showing them but then chickening out -- and both seized on Cloud as a link between them, not quite using him, but still, not entirely wanting him, either.

#30 - Body

Tifa wished sometimes that she could have been the one to let Aeris' body float off -- perhaps she could have had a last kiss, or, stupidly, she thought that maybe she could have saved her, brought soul back to body and held them together.

#31 - Sacred

Aeris had let her hold her mother's materia, shining faintly in her hands, and she'd wanted it -- not because it was useful or lucky or any of that, but just as a token of how they felt.

#32 - Farewells

It took Tifa a long time to figure out how to say goodbye to Aeris -- she stood by the side of the water, looking for any sign of Aeris' body, long after the others had gone -- finally, she resigned herself to the fact there was nothing to say, and left with so many things and a farewell burning on the tip of her tongue.

#33 - World

It shamed Tifa to admit that she would give up the world, give up the idea of saving it, if only she and Aeris and the others could all survive.

#34 - Formal

When alone together, Aeris and Tifa were almost formal with each other, stiff and restrained -- until Tifa realised that it was silly, that they were just being scared of something that was natural and nice, and she broke all the barriers of formality and reached for Aeris, kissing her.

#35 - Fever

Tifa's eyes were bright and almost feverish when they rode the gondola together -- Aeris and Tifa, laughing nervously, holding hands and -- kissing, only to pull away quickly, because it was time for Aeris' date with Cloud.

#36 - Laugh

Aeris had a nice laugh -- Tifa heard it from the next room as she teased Cloud, and wished that Aeris would laugh that way for her.

#37 - Lies

There are white lies you can tell yourself when a person's eyes make you go all weak at the knees, and Tifa told herself that Aeris made her feel weak because they were meant to be best friends, meant to be able to tell each other anything, do anything together -- not because they were meant to be together.

#38 - Forever

Forever was, obviously, not an option -- still, Aeris smiled and promised it, because Tifa didn't really understand all that about the Lifestream, and if it made her feel happy, well, so be it.

#39 - Overwhelmed

Aeris was used to being alone, mostly, except from the voices of the Planet -- but Tifa seemed determined to be close to her, talking to her, listening to her, and once, kissing her -- the closeness and company almost overwhelming, but not quite.

#40 - Whisper

She lay in bed at the inn, pretending to be asleep as Aeris tiptoed toward her bed -- she heard an indrawn breath, wanted to look up, but then heard the softest whisper possible, whispering a secret, supposed to be unheard, to the night -- "I love you."

#41 - Wait

"Wait for me!" Aeris called, running after Tifa -- and she waited, waited as Aeris caught up and caught hold of her hand, carelessly, naturally, sending shivers of happiness running through her.

#42 - Talk

She could talk to Tifa, she knew it, and she did, taking advantage of Tifa's willingness to listen.

#43 - Search

For a while after everything was over, Tifa wanted to roam the world again, searching -- she wasn't quite sure for what, but every waking moment, she heard whispers around her -- as if she could turn around and Aeris would be standing there, alive and whole and smiling.

#44 - Hope

Aeris gave hope to everyone on earth, keeping none for herself -- but most of all, she wanted to give hope to Tifa, because she hated to see her sad.

#45 - Eclipse

When Aeris it was gone, it was like the moon had covered the sun -- only, as Tifa reminded herself, the moon always moved away again, and what had taken Aeris away from their sight would never move away.

#46 - Gravity

They teased each other with straight, solemn faces, rarely smiling, playing a game that only they knew was purely friendly.

#47 - Highway

They were all squashed into the truck, and for a moment Tifa wished she was with Cloud on the motorbike -- until she felt Aeris take her hand, and then she smiled, squeezing back to reassure her.

#48 - Unknown

Tifa didn't know what would happen when she died, but she did hope that she would somehow meet Aeris again.

#49 - Lock

Tifa had grabbed Aeris and pushed her into a holding position even before she realised what she was doing, holding her in a lock that she'd been taught so long ago, that now came as second nature -- she hurried to let go, apologising repeatedly, but Aeris just smiled and asked her to show her how to do it herself.

#50 - Breathe

Tifa watched that sword go right through Aeris, and it felt as if that sword pierced her, too -- she tried to take a deep breath, but found it catching on its way in, catching on the miserable tears that welled up.
