Beatrix found herself surprisingly attached to Garnet. It wasn't just because the girl was a princess -- Beatrix didn't believe in sucking up anyway. If she was going to get anywhere, she'd do it on her own steam -- too proud to do anything else.
Attachment was attachment, though, and Beatrix found herself spending a lot of time with Garnet. There were a surprising amount of casual touches -- she'd stroke the girl's hair, take her hand -- and more smiling than Beatrix remembered with anybody ever before.
It was nice, really, to spend time in the company of such a person.
