He's always this annoying presence that annoys and comforts her all at once. They're walking on the surface of the moon and everything is new and strange and she's almost decided she might have been better staying behind, when he looks at her and winks and smiles like he knows her thoughts and doesn't blame her.
And that just makes her want to show him that she's really not afraid at all. So she stays with them all and fights and summons and calls the black magic up from everywhere and nowhere.
She bites back on her fears for his smile's sake.
