She's leaving (going home, she says, going home to the Land of Summoned Monsters) and it's breaking his heart (she isn't a monster, she's a human, she belongs in his world, beside him). She says goodbye with a hug and he holds her tightly for a moment and then lets her go and watches her go.
Later, Cecil tells him that Rydia loved him, and would have stayed if only he'd showed his feelings, and he's so pissed off with himself there aren't words for it.
She never returns, but every minute of every day they think of each other and sigh.
