Summary: Seifer teaches Squall to junction. For
30_fantasies.
Seifer is the one who really teaches Squall to junction, not Quistis. Not Trepe, with her lectures and her constant reminders of the simplest things. Seifer thinks Quezecotl and Shiva make the best ones to start out, the best ones for Squall. He favours Ifrit, of course, enjoying the raw fire and passion of the fire guardian. But ice and lightening are perfect for Squall -- cold professionalism with a hint of exhilarating spark.
So he carries Shiva and Quezecotl in his head to one of their duels, despite the obvious anger of Shiva and Ifrit at the other's presence, balancing all the raw power like a glass filled too full, and he tells Squally-boy to put down his blade and come over.
He comes, of course, obedient, whether he realises or not, to Seifer's every whim. And Seifer takes his hand and pulls him close.
He almost forgets to struggle but then he does, lashing out quickly and hitting Seifer in the mouth. Seifer pauses, wriggles his jaw a little and quickly spits out a little blood from his split lip.
"Suppose I deserved that."
"Whatever."
"C'mere. I'm not trying to rape you. I'm trying to give you something."
And Seifer grabs Squall's wrist and yanks him close again. He focuses on the live, writhing power of the guardians in his mind, and tips them out, like pouring a bottle of water out, pours them out and into Squall's mind. He watches the rush of cold wash over Squall and sees him blink, oncetwicethrice and then return to normal, gasping for breath like he just ran a marathon.
"If you can hold 'em junctioned to you, Squally-boy, we can have a proper duel at last."
Squall holds tight to them and they fight, really fight, pushed beyond their bodies' limits by the power of the guardians in their minds, fighting and fighting and fighting and refusing to give in, because Seifer holds Ifrit and Squall carries Shiva, and all of a sudden they're polar opposites with no wish in life but to defeat the other. In time they both become addicted to that power, forget how it started. How they were almost-friends.
And somehow, so do everybody else.
