For days (weeks?) it's been like she's forgotten how to smile. At first he thought it was just a girl thing, but she doesn't hold her head up as high as she used to. It's like she's dealing with a great pain she doesn't know how to voice.
Steiner isn't exactly good with things like emotions. He wants to please the Princess -- wants to make her smile. For more reasons than just to impress her or serve her.
Garnet's smiles do brighten up Alexandria. With Brahne being what she is... Alexandria needs Garnet happy.
