FFVIII: Abandoned
Fandom: Final Fantasy VIII
Pairing: None
Warnings: Angst
Rating: G
Summary: Out in the wide world on her own.
"Will I be coming home often?"
Quistis was wide-eyed. The Garden -- it didn't look much like a garden, to the child's eyes -- was a huge place for a ten year old. She couldn't imagine living in this place for long. She'd be lost. Lost and lonely.
"Quistis..."
Her adopted father bent down to her eyelevel and beckoned her closer. The man showing them round stepped a few short paces away, just out of earshot, allowing them a semblance of privacy. She bit her lip slightly, realising this was serious. "Daddy?"
"I should have told you before, but... Quistis... you're not coming home ever. This is your home."
From that moment on, she felt as if she had been cut off from the world she knew.
But as she waved goodbye to her 'father', her mind was set. She was abandoned, but she was strong. She'd lost her original home, but if she worked hard, this place, this "Garden" could be her home. Her first impressions of the place were that it was too big, too cold, too... unlike home.
But she would grow strong enough to tolerate the place, and even get to like it.
