It's a song they heard in the Gold Saucer. It's annoying and ever present and it grates on Tifa's nerves as she stares into her glass of red wine. Because the three of them liked it. Sitting on Aeris' bed, forgetting about rivalry for Cloud, forgetting about all the boys, listening to the radio. Wine sticky kisses and touches that are remembered fuzzy now thanks to the faint buzz of alcohol they all felt.
Aeris was a little giggly. Just a little. And her cheeks were touched with pink that Tifa remembers thinking was adorable.
They're both gone now. Aeris... gone. Gone and gone and gone forever. Yuffie is just... somewhere. But it wouldn't be the same with just Yuffie, anyway. It was perfect with the three of them. No need to worry about who Cloud liked.
Hell, he'd probably liked Barret better.
For a while, she joins in a card game, but they all gradually lose interest as they get more drunk, and since she's not drunk or in the mood to be pawed over, she slips off before the game is done, slips off to sit alone.
Sometimes it doesn't feel like Aeris is gone. It feels like she's about to step into that very bar, like she's about to take the glass of wine from Tifa's hand and pull her up, tangle their fingers, take her to Yuffie.
But she is gone.
Tifa leaves the bar and goes for a walk. A long walk.
And it's morning before she knows it. And she misses them. Aeris' soft warmth. Yuffie's squirming habit.
Sometimes it feels hard just to get up and get dressed and move. It was easier when they had a goal. Something to reach. Now, there's nothing, and with Aeris gone...
With Aeris gone, Tifa still doesn't feel quite alone. There's always Yuffie, somewhere. And it feels as if Aeris is out there -- unreachable, untouchable, but watching and waiting for Tifa and Yuffie to find her again.
