Summary: Gippal is bad with chocobos. For [livejournal.com profile] 30_fantasies.

Gippal is normally fairly graceful. All the other Al Bhed boys of his age (thirteen, now) are gawky and gangly and clumsy, but Gippal retains a grace and quickness that the others won't rediscover for a year or two.

However, on the back of a chocobo, it's a very different matter.

Rikku is smothering her giggles with her hand, sitting on top of her placid chocobo and watching Gippal still trying to mount. Every time he nearly gets settled, the chocobo dips or rears up or starts walking off, leaving Gippal to tumble off or be dragged after.

He's hot with anger and burning with shame, a little too rough, though he's a good boy and he'd never abuse the chocobo exactly. He just tugs on the reins harder than necessary and drags it towards him, throwing his weight onto it.

He's not making much progress.

He gives Rikku a hurt look when a giggle escapes and she rides over to take the reins, soothing the chocobo with pets and giggly little chocobo noises. "Let Gippal on you, okay? I know he's a big loser and he'll never be a good rider, but it'd be a start if you'd let him on."

The chocobo stands still.

Gippal mounts.

The chocobo takes off running, with Rikku's keeping pace easily, and Gippal hanging on, only just barely settled into his saddle, cursing like Pops when he's done something stupid and won't admit it.

He flushes even more at the sound of her laughter, holding on grimly and desperately wishing they were back with his father learning to put machina together. He could impress her, then.
